START WHERE YOU STAND

                                             START WHERE YOU STAND

Stanza 1

Start where you stand and never mind the past,
The past won’t help you in beginning new,
If you have left it all behind at last
Why, that’s enough you’re done with it, you’re through;

Explanation

The poet wants us to influence the guidance of moving forward in every circumstances and to never wind up our mind by looking at our mistakes which we have done in past. He recommends us to neglect the work done behind and to the people who tries to pull you back by bringing up your past in to your present. Such conditions are hard to face but if you are challenging the situation and tackling it well then you are on to the path of success. Go through it without caring for anyone…

Stanza 2

This is another chapter in the book,
This is another race that you have planned,
Don’t give the vanished days a backward look,
Start where you stand.

Explanation

Poet says, instead of looking at those lazy days and the days of failure let’s make ourselves bold enough to go for the new conditions which are waiting out around. Concentration on your moto will raise you to heights.

Stanza 3

The world won’t care about your old defeats
If you can start anew and win successes;
The future is your time, and time is fleet
And there is much of work and strain and stress;

Explanation

People pokes us by the needle of our mistakes. Nobody cares for our try, but it doesn’t sense that even we shouldn’t. Keep trying and working on your mistakes, the errors will get reduced and success will be your final conclusion. Every past second can be controlled by our will. Time is vigorous in his department, it is just that we need to have a hold on it and work along and tolerate the pressure of hard work spontaneously.

Stanza 4

Forget the buried woes and dead despairs,
Here is brand-new trial right at hand,
The future is for him who does and dares,
Start where you stand.

Life has presented us with a new chance, a new trial in our hand. We are the chef of our dish. Future depends on today and today has to be exciting and creative. Mind has to be glowing with the desire of success. Build up your tomorrow to today and today to now!

Stanza 5

Old failures will not halt, old triumphs aid,
To-day the thing, to-morrow the soon will be;
Get in the fight and face it unafraid,
And leave the past to ancient history;

If we start our hard work today then there will be a definite soon tomorrow which will pop up with a success in your hand. We usually don’t contain patience for that soon tomorrow, we get afraid of the upcoming pebbles in that way, we fear of people talks which we shouldn’t. The people who comes around this circumstances transforms a good habits into them and leaves there past miles away from there present.

Stanza 6

What has been, has been; yesterday is dead
And by it you are neither blessed nor banned;
Take courage, man, be brave and drive ahead,
Start where you stand.

Explanation

We cannot change our past in any way. It is over and the period is vanished. Whatever the good will or the bad actions of us are not going to stand in front to bless us nor to punish us. The actions performed in past are hard to overcome for every human being but being bold and brave is something what different. Courage and braveness are the attributes of a unique personality. We must look ahead and concentrate on our today instead of the past which has already gone and future which is certain to be unpredictable. A new beginning is waiting for all of us ahead it is just that how we take it upon us!

what does the poet mean by the line "forget the buried woes and dead despairs"
Mehwish said…
Poet here suggests us to forget about the past or dead woes means sadness or miseries and dispairs means unhappiness. This is a perfect example of tautology. As woes and dispairs are conveying similar meaning.

The poet wants to say whatever mistakes happened in your past life they happened. Whatever bad things or difficulties you faced they went and will never come back. Learn lesson from your mistakes and don't repeat them.

"the world won't care about your old defeats
If you can start anew and win success"
I guess this means if we start our journey in a new way and win success then then the world will not care about past failure
